I’m Julio Vega, a senior broadcast student at The University of Texas at Arlington. Originally from the small town of Ferris, Texas, I moved to Arlington to focus full time on my studies these past two years. I enrolled at Eastfield College in the fall of 2016 and wrote for the school newspaper, The Et Cetera, during my two years there. I covered the college’s sports and had the chance to provide coverage of the women’s volleyball program during their 2017 NJCAA National Championship run. Following my successful time at Eastfield, I transferred to UTA in the fall of 2018 and joined its campus newspaper, The Shorthorn. At UTA I’ve also honed my broadcasting skills, becoming a better videographer, editor, producer and storyteller. These skills helped me land an internship at the Cotton Bowl Classic this past December. My love of sports and my skills as a journalist have given me a complete view of what I hope to do in the industry. I’ve always enjoyed sports at a young age, but none more than soccer. It was my obsession growing up, but as I’ve grown older I’ve learned to appreciate all sports and the impact they can have on society as a whole, not just sports fans. I was awarded an internship with USA Today Sports in McLean, Va.
