My name is David Song. I am a 24-year old graduate student completing the Sports Capital Journalism Program at IUPUI. Originally born in Brooklyn, N.Y., I lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for 17 years and am a dual citizen of Canada and the United States. During my undergrad studies at the University of Calgary, I wrote for the sports section of The Gauntlet, my school’s student-run publication.
Although my experiences with The Gauntlet were humble, they allowed me to practice sports writing and reporting at a grassroots level. Over time, I discovered the depth of my passion for sports journalism and chose to make it my career. This decision led me to Indianapolis, and eventually to SJI. I hope to take advantage of the unique opportunities SJI provides to interns so that I might make connections in the industry and take my skills to the next level.
I am interested not only in sports writing but broadcasting as well. My goal is to learn anything I can that would make me better at both. I’m also looking forward to befriending and learning from my fellow interns and others in our industry. I was awarded an internship with USA Today Sports in McLean, Va.
